Information on Beacon and Members of Beacon’s Staff

Beacon is short for "Beacon Principal Herald" – one of the Greater Officers of the Kingdom of Meridies. According to Kingdom Law, Beacon is responsible "for the conduct of the College of Heralds, the Masters/Mistresses of the List, and for all the Heralds and Pursuivants" of Meridies. Beacon has a number of deputies to help with this and below this big table are Beacon’s expectations for staff members.

Beacon’s Expectations of Staff Members

Adapted from Mistress Amicia Readyman, September 2007

  1. Be active within the kingdom. To me this means trying to attend at least an average of one event per month other than August and December.  That is just 10 events a year.  I think it would be hard to function as a kingdom-level officer and be less active than that.
  2. Report quarterly to Beacon on the activity of the office and goals both short-range and long-range.
  3. Be a paid member of the SCA. This is required.
  4. Be a member of the Beacon Staff list (on Yahoo Groups) since Beacon uses it to communicate with the entire staff at once.
