Flower Conflict and Registerability
From the Web Deputy
I've done some cosmetic polishing on the original content - but ALL of the technical content is the same as it was. The original page is archived on the Wayback Machine.
Yves, August 2008
While checking a flower for conflict, I decided it was too much of pain to keep track of, like crosses and lines of division. So I went and made a table. Silly me. I have also appended a list of post-period flowers. Not all of them, just the ones I've had to research.

The last update was 24 January 2005. It includes all flower rulings up to partway through the tenure of François. Any and all additions and corrections gleefully accepted. (To Do: Finish the X2 column)

POST-PERIOD FLOWERS
Amaryllis
From the mountains of Peru and Chile, discovered in 1828 by Eduard Frederich Poeppig, a physician from Leipzig. (Not necessarily true. See Amaryllis Coleman, sometime in Shauna's tenure. It's a return for other reasons.) http://pine.usask.ca/cofa/departments/hort/hortinfo/plants/amaryll.html Current page.
Poinsettia
Native to Mexico, the poinsettia originated in a region near the present-day city of Taxco. Joel Robert Poinsett, a Southern plantation owner and botanist, was appointed the first United States Ambassador to Mexico (1825-1829). While visiting Taxco, he was struck by the beauty of the brilliant red plants he found blooming in the region during December.
